UC Hastings Law Library Catalog Search Tips: Using the Classic Catalog

This guide provides tips for searching the Library's Catalog (Encore) for books, and Catalog Plus for books and articles. It also explains some of the Catalog's "Advanced Search" features.

Accessing Classic Catalog

Why Use Classic Catalog?

There are some circumstances in which you might wish to use the UC Hastings Law Library's "Classic Catalog,"  rather than Encore.  For example, if you would like to search by a specific call number or subject heading, this is easily done in our Classic Catalog, but not in Encore (not directly, anyway, although keyword searching on call number or subject heading in Encore will approximate the same results).

To access the Classic Catalog, click on the "Library Catalog" link from the UC Hastings Law Library home page . . .

 . . . then click on "Classic Catalog," in the lower right-hand corner of the page:

From the Classic Catalog search screen, you can search by field, from the dropdown menu, or you can click on other options:
