Interlibrary Loan with ILLiad: Requesting Book Chapters

Guide to borrowing materials from other libraries through interlibrary loan.

Ordering Book Chapters through Interlibrary Loan

Step 1.  First make sure the library does not own the book.  Check the Law Library Catalog

Step 2. If the Law Library does not own a copy of the book, click on the "Find it in WorldCat" link in at the upper left corner of the catalog.

Off campus users:   Access WorldCat through the UC Hastings proxy:  http://uchastings.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://uchastings.worldcat.org/

Step 3.  If you see what you need in WorldCat, click on the link to the record.  CAUTION:  Do not request eBooks.  We cannot borrow them.  We can only borrow print books.

Step 5.  You will be redirected to the ILLiad login page.  Log in to your account using your UC Hastings user name and password.

Step 7. In the Notes field on the form, indicate the title and author of the chapter you need.

Step 8. Click Submit Request.  Your request has now been sent to the ILL Department for processing. The book will now appear in your list of Outstanding Requests. You can check this list periodically to review the status of your request. You will receive an email when the book arrives.

Step 9.  If you can't find the record for the book in WorldCat, go directly to the ILLiad login page (https://uchastings.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/) and log in using your UC Hastings user name and password.

Step 10.  Click on the "Book Chapter" link in the left-side menu under "New Request."

Step 11.  Fill out the Book Chapter Request Form with as much information as you have and click Submit Request.  The request has been sent to the ILL Department for processing. It will now appear in your Outstanding Requests list. You will receive an email when the book or PDF of the book chapter arrives.
