California Legislative History Research Guide: Step 8. Final History

Check the Final History or Calendar

Step 8.  Check the Final Histories.

The Assembly Final History and the Senate Final History are compiled in the Final Calendar of Legislative Business ( KFC14 - 5th Floor Stacks). These volumes contain a listing of all the actions taken on each bill during that legislative session.  You can use the histories to identify to which committees the bill was referred, then look for reports from those committees published in the legislative journals.   You can also use the final history to identify the dates of committee hearings. If the hearing occurred in the Senate after Sept. 26, 2005, you can locate the video recording by committee name and date on the California State Senate's website.  If it occurred in the Assembly after January 2, 2018, it can be located by committee name and date on the California State Assembly's website

The Assembly Final History and the Senate Final History for most of the years from 1881 to 2015 are available online at the California Assembly Clerk Archive site. Click on Histories and Indexes, and then on the appropriate year. (Hint: Click on the active PDF document.).
