Legal Research: Free Resources: Scientific materials

This guide identifies free and low-cost resources that will help you with your legal research needs for Federal, state, foreign, and multidisciplinary materials.

Scientific materials

  • San Francisco Public Library: The San Francisco Public Library is located two blocks away from UC Hastings at 100 Larkin St.  You can find books on your topic via the library catalog, and articles via the electronic databases. Electronic access requires a library card.  Some useful databases include Academic Search Complete, Business Search Complete, JSTOR, Gale databases and InfoTrac. Also includes many specialized databases.
  • PubMed Central: A free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).
  • ScienceDirect: Access to the abstracts and citations of more than 2,500 science journals and more than 11,000 books.  Full text access to open access journals and sponsored articles.
